Evansville Wartime Museum is the area’s only museum totally focused on Evansville’s World War II home front legacy. Per capita, no other city in the United States produced more for the war effort than Evansville. The only U.S. city to build both ships and planes during World War II, Evansville’s shipyard built 200 ships, mostly LSTs, and Republic Aviation’s Evansville factory produced 6,670 P-47 fighter planes. Evansville Wartime Museum honors the unique role of the city’s citizens in defense production supporting U.S. troops on land, in the air, and on the sea during World War II.
